- Lactic Acid - Derived from the fermentation of milk, it is an alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) that acts as a keratolytic, helping to encourage the shedding of cells in the stratum corneum to encourage new cell growth. Also acts as a hygroscopic substance (humectant), having the ability to attract or absorb water molecules from the surrounding environment.
- Lemon Peel Extract - Derived from the peel of the lemon, it contains ascorbic acid, vitamin A and phytochemicals called limonoids. It has antiseptic and astringent properties which counteract acidity on the surface to brighten dull skin.
- Bearberry Extract - Derived from the shrub found in the high mountains of Europe, it has anti-oxidant properties because it contains flavonoids and has astringent and antiseptic properties due to the bitter plant polyphenol, tannin. It also contains the glycoside, arbutin, which acts as an anti-inflammatory, helping to inhibit tyrosinase (enzyme responsible for melanin) reducing hyperpigmentaion.
